Gorgeous desert iguana (dipsosaurus dorsalis) in the wild filmed in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona — the one & only on YouTube at time of posting! Video Rating: 4 / 5
Thanks. That must have been cool to watch! They do have some interesting moves. My more recent vids of the desert iguana are not as washed out as this one.
thanks — this is an old one. I have more recent ones that are better and not so washed out. If you come to the desert and don’t mind the heat, you should find plenty of them. Unlike most herps, they’re out and about during the hottest part of the day. My porohui video was filmed in triple digit temperatures! It was worth it though. I love these guys!
If any time you have the opportunity to travel to Sonora, Mexico go to anywhere in the sonoran desert, you can see some desert iguanas in the US/Mex border (AZ/Sonora) between Cawlic and Lukeville (AZ) or if you can cross the border in that area and search in all mexican desert with no restrictions
I used to catch these in Phoenix back in 1983 – 1985 when I was 13 -15. We found them at 43 Avenue and Beardsley…now a residential area bordering the loop 101. The only way we could catch them is by digging up their holes or when they’d run under trash (I didn’t know much about destroying ecosystems at that age…I do now though…of course). Anyway, those were great days…reptiles all over the freaking place for us kids. Great video…thanks a lot for posting.
Chuckwalla in the wild is the one lizard I have not had the privilege of seeing yet, much less taping. But when I do, I’ll be sure to let you know. Thanks for watching
This lizard rocks! I live in apple valley near foothills they have chuckwallas. These lizards are huge! But I never seem to see any desert iguanas. Does anyone know where I might be able to view them in wild. Please respond. Thanx
No – I don’t mind. I’m happy to contribute! Got 2 more desert iguana videos — a couple courting and desert iguana up close is the most recent and the best in my opinion. Thanks!
those guys used to be common. now with roads, poachers, and houses they’re rare. used to watch them eat different plant matters. now it’s resorts and golf courses. wonderful creatures… glad there’s still some in your area. protect them. roads kill
It’s in a temporary water dish that we had in the front yard before we put in our permanent water features, so that’s mud. It was under a Creosote bush, so I imagine it’s some kind of plant matter, but I think he/she was snapping at the bees as well.
I used to catch these in the wild to feed to my Cali Kingsnake.
