BBC – Just So Darwin A series of short cartoons for children looking at different animals from an evolutionary perspective. What is camouflage? This animation describes how animals can use camouflage to ‘hide’ or ‘seek’ in their environment. Grandad Charlie, an elderly tortoise, is playing hide and seek with his grandson Sam. He tells Sam a story about some animals who took part in the world hide and seek contest. The seeker was Clouded Leopard and the finalists were Chameleon, Moon Moth, Flying Gecko and Stick Insect. Flying Gecko was caught first in mid-air. Chameleon was caught using his tongue to catch a fly on Snow Leopard’s head. Moon Moth flew to the moon and was caught. Stick Insect hid among the twigs and won the contest. Video Rating: 5 / 5
I caught my Kuhl’s Flying Gecko male – Hyde – in the middle of a shed one morning, and was able to catch (half of it) on video. Sorry for all the motion, I was very excited. Video Rating: 0 / 5
Introduction to my two newest geckos, a male and female Flying Gecko (Ptychozoon kuhli). I’m giving them time to settle in, so only a picture slide show for now.
Size: Flying Geckos are about 6″ long Lifespan: WC animals live 3-5 years, CBB Flying geckos have been known to live to almost 10 years. Housing: These geckos are arboreal. So cages that are tall rather than wide are best suited to keeping this species. Males can not be kept together, they will fight. Females get along with other females pretty well if there is enough space for them all. I recommend a 20 Tall style tank for 1-2 flying geckos and increasing size by 10 for each flying gecko added. Many decorations are preferred, and dense foliage is something any flyer will enjoy. Another cage decoration that I find to be instrumental to keeping these animals are cork bark backgrounds. They will simulate the tree trunks they live on in the wild. A shallow water dish is also needed, add rocks or something they can climb on to as they are not good at swimming. Video Rating: 2 / 5
My Ptychozoon kuhli gecko skin shedding! Ptychozoon kuhli is the species of Flying Gecko widespread in Southeast Asia, ranging from the Malayan Peninsula, through Sumatra and Java to Borneo and adjacent islands. The colors are variable, ranging from browns to grays. The patterns can be very intricate and bark like. Frequently the pattern is wavy bands of dark brown outlined on a tan background. A lighter tan dorsal stripe is present on some specimens. A flap of skin extends down both flanks with narrower frills at the sides of the head. There is extensive webbing between the digits. The deeply serrated tail is an extraordinary feature. Due to their unusual appearance and low cost these geckos are popular with beginners. They often find their way into local petshops. Unfortunately care is frequently incorrect and many die annually. Once acclimated these geckos are hardy captives, but the process can be tricky. This species deserves more attention from serious hobbyists and hopefully more captive-bred animals will be produced in the future. There are six species within the genus Ptychozoon but only one other, P. lionotum is ever imported and its care is identical to that described here. Video Rating: 5 / 5
Google Test Automation Conference 2010 October 28-29, 2010 Crowd Source Testing, Mozilla Community Style Presented by Matt Evans, Mozilla Abstract: Software testing and crowd sourcing are made for each other. The reach of today’s web based applications extend well beyond country borders. Take for example today’s modern web browser. A software application that rivals the complexity and features of any computer operating system. To become a successful world player in the web browser market, your browser must correctly render web pages and media across the global landscape of bleeding edge web standards to web pages written years ago. Mozilla and its global community has been developing the Firefox browser for over a decade and continues to hold second position in the global browser market. A dominant success factor can be attributed to the participation of Mozilla’s community in the testing of Firefox. In this talk I will show how Mozilla has been using crowd sourced testing and feedback monitoring of the nearly million member beta testing community to assess Firefox release readiness and demonstrate why Mozilla’s testing and user communities are at the true heart of it’s current and future success. Speakers Bio: Matt Evans’ career spans from establishing QA efforts in startups to running test engineering in large public companies. Matt has recently taken on the position of Mozilla QA Director and is diving into the world of open source development and testing. Prior to …
